In the last few years, the world of interactive entertainment has gone through quite the transition in terms of content, player expectations and varied experiences that continue to drive the biggest form of entertainment in the world.
Recognizing the video game industry continues to reimagine and reinvent itself, so does the International Video Game Hall of Fame.
The video game industry, now roughly 54 years old, is a true art form, unique in its interactivity as well as the constant drive to push the envelope further and further each year, setting new standards of graphic fidelity used by just about every other tech industry, and innovating in the areas of ever-expanding interaction with fantastical digital worlds.
Our goal is to keep a focus on the major people, games and groups that have influenced the direction and drive our medium, to help provide recognition to those that are deserving enough to be highlighted by the Hall of Fame structure. Sometimes the significance is subtle and needs to be clearly surfaced, other times it’s calling attention to the trendsetters of the mainstream and looking back to the moment when those individuals or games came on the scene, sparking new feats, directions and possibilities.
In the last few years, we have taken a good look at our ongoing mission, mostly related to our internet presence, and went through a period of looking at our structure, methodology and consumer-facing image. This retrospective helped to streamline the updated IVGHOF branding as well as develop a plan for a far more interactive future for the IVGHOF.
With the new designs, our social media and web presence are now better connected, and the new web layout helps with streamlining the important content as well as adding more options and details on each Inductee while keeping at the forefront the historical significance and recognition the IVGHOF brings to fans of all ages.
The new structure for the IVGHOF will also allow us to add more features and ways for everyone to interact directly with the organization, including access to various historical research and ongoing analysis of everything the industry represents, from competitive gaming and esports, to games driving pop culture, to individuals working tireless behind the scenes to continue to push the envelope.
Please take a moment to look through our current and past inductees and appreciate the positive contributions generated. With a little time investment, it’s possible to gain a new appreciation of where we’ve been and which may bring to light ideas of where we’re going as well.
A new class of Inductees will be released this year, under the new banner and public outlook, so stay-tuned for announcements that will once again celebrate the best-of-the-best that helped us get to the $200+ billion industry we are today.
Hopefully our work provides clearer navigation through time as well as an appreciation for those folks and games that built the biz. Keep on gaming!
